Verdelandia Nativa Premium is traditional chimarrao, with a coarser cut and a bright green color. The aroma of dry maté is grassy, with nettle and vegetable (even pepper-like) tones. The first brews are very intense, quite bitter, again with a strong nettle undertone. In later brews, the flavor changes to creamy. Chimarrao is distinctly different in color, texture, and flavor from Argentine, Paraguayan, or Uruguayan yerba, and it resembles Matcha green tea more—with a powder from finely chopped leaves and a small amount of stems. It is usually vacuum-packed within the first week after harvest, retaining higher chlorophyll levels, giving it a bright neon green color. Verdelandia is a traditional family business founded in 1985. It was one of the first in the state of Paraná to start vacuum packing, which keeps maté fresh much longer. In addition to traditional chimarrao, it has also focused on producing tereré in recent years. The company adheres to a sustainable approach, intensively investing in reforestation and planting new holly trees, from which the raw product for maté production is harvested once they mature (such maté is then labeled as Nativa).
